Thats not "our" status quo, its the status quo of several hundreds of thousands of boxes out there (every SoC realtek ever manufactured, regardless of generation, among many others).
The point is, you don't go out of your way (and invest time and money in development) to promote a bad practice (if its there so be it, if its missing then its one step in the right direction).

Aasoror - thanks for your tolerance and welcome.

Maybe the thing here is like - "once through the looking glass", and I have not really been there. I feel the security model I suggested gives me comfort as long as I don't store information about my account in the Cayman's on a computer. Maybe hardcore types see no possibility for reasonably obtained security with a wireless system.

Obviously I don't know much about SoC - but as a concept. But isn't there a chance for some pushback for firmware updates by realtek? This isn't my red button doesn't work on my keyboard.
