Unofficial: user built nightly XBMC-M3 builds

Postby aasoror » December 16th, 2012, 8:03 pm

Hello All,
Requests from power users to share their own builds has been floating around. Its clear how such images might cause confusion all around the forum when people start to mix feedback from these releases with feedback from the official ones.

That said its undoubtedly helpful and very beneficial for development to get feeback and reports about yet to be released issues which helps in making official releases more robust (just check the bug reports and developer/user interactions on XBMC-Pivos github).

So instead of banning this, lets regulate it and keep everyone happy.

Here is the rules for now (pending changes):
- Keep all discussions about user built builds to this thread.
- Always post your build with a matching github commit label.
- Any mods or tweaks done on top of the master code needs to be listed.
- optional: use http://d-h.st/ to upload you image.

Thanks everyone for contributing in this and a special "thank you" to rapalax for the suggestion.

(update.img is a symlink to the most recent build)

These builds are straight git pulls - no modifications. Builds commence at 0400 UTC if there has been a commit to git within the previous 24 hours. Both M1 and M3 builds are usually completed before 0600 UTC. 5 most recent builds are kept in the folder for rolling back, bug verification etc.

To use the feature, you have to ssh to your XIOS DS, log in as root (pw: letmein) and create a file in /root/.xbmc named myResolv.conf.

For example: once logged in, use the follow command to generate myResolv.conf for tunlr.net.

Code: Select all
echo "nameserver 142.54.177.158" > /root/.xbmc/myResolv.conf

Then reboot the box with:

Code: Select all
reboot now

Once XBMC is up and running again you should be able to go into the Settings->System Info->Network and see your Primary and Secondary DNS set to the value that you specified in myResolv.conf.

Now you can FreeCable and Hulu, from Canada, until the cows come home, even after you power cycle or reset the box.

Enjoy.

if you're running windows, just grab an app called "putty", when it opens up put in the local IP address of your XIOS and say ok, a cmd window will open where you can enter in SSH commands.

edit: obviously PC and XIOS need to be on the same LAN
