Mute Icon, how to remove?

Postby xbmc4u » September 10th, 2012, 11:40 am

First, thanks for the great work. I just got my xiox ds, updated to the linux xbmc 090712 image. Works great. Bye, bye ATV2.

I do have one issue and I'm not sure how it happened.

For some unknown reason I have a red "Mute" icon in the upper right hand corner of the screen. Nothing is muted, as when I play movies and stream internet video I get all the sound that I expect.

How do I get rid of this annoying little icon?

I have tried to reboot the box but it didn't change. I looked in all the menus but I can't find a "mute" setting.

Totally lost.

Thanks.

Try this, play a video and while it's playing, bring up the osd then navigate to the right and click on the little speaker icon and set your volume from there. Let me know if that works

Hi Canaya,

I did this before. When I went to the volume slider it was set to -60 dB. I had to change it to -0 dB. This did not remove the icon. I think I have some messed up setting somewhere that seems the disable to sound. After the last reboot, everything really was muted until I changed the slider.

Thanks for your help.

Regards.

Mute Icon, how to remove?

Postby Canaya » September 10th, 2012, 9:09 pm

This was a common problem earlier in the year with different platforms. Try this... http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=69693 . Also try enabling the web server in the network settings of xbmc then log on thru your browser to control xbmc from the web interface and raise the volume from there. Also, some of the xbmc remotes for your smartphone have a volume button. Try raising volume from there. Let me know if any of this helps

[Solved] Re: Mute Icon, how to remove?

Thanks Canaya,

I really have never looked into xbmc much beyond what the ATV2 allowed.

What I did to resolve this issue, after searching the XBMC forums, was to connect a USB keyboard that I had in the basement and pressing F8, which according to the wiki will mute/unmute XBMC.

It did the trick! I'll keep the keyboard handy incase of other problems. I just wish I understood how I got into this situation in the first place.

Regards.
