Did you need to set anything special in advancedsettings.xml for this version? Mine appears to read in, as I get the paths I added with a path substitution, but the video and music databases are not reading in. SQL database works fine on my htpc and my atv2.

CIFS Manager just mounts the SMB shares as a local path so the media player thinks the files are on local storage.

After installing CIFS Manager
share path = IP address of PC e.g. 192.168.1.5/videos
mount point = path on Android e.g. /mnt/sdcard/network

I haven't had to resort to anything like that my ethernet link to my QNAP NAS has been rock solid.

Thanks for the advice, I have also tried setting up an NFS server with hanewin which seems to work. Does anyone know which setup would be better? If i remember correctly NFS is supposed to be faster (i.e. more streaming bandwidth), did I remember correctly?

For some reason my XBMC crashes out constantly even when just browsing through the XBMC menus. CPU is 100%. I have the minimal ICS installation.

I was having the same problem yesterday, but I loaded this app:

viewtopic.php?f=14&t=832&p=7943#p7943

and selected "on demand", and no more crashing. I think that with the right apps and tweaks, things appear to be getting better and more stable every day. That's me being optimistic.

Well since I didn't get an answer to my audio stuttering problem with streaming video then can anyone else confirm that when you play the video below from your xbmc pivos that the sound is playing in advance of the video and sometimes stutters? Wait until you can see the people talk cause initial you can't tell. If it plays fine for you what's your xbmc settings? This happens on nearly all the videos I'm watching the drama sites and such

I'd be willing to give it a go if I could even see in XBMC where you stream youtube videos ... I didn't know you could?

If you don't know about the youtube add-on then you probably don't know about the other xbmc video add-ons which means you're missing out. In my opinion the whole reason to get xbmc is for the streaming media add-ons. For local video and audio file vlc player and rockplayer is more convenient cause usually I like to just click on video file and play it instead of just waiting for xbmc to load then click through the menus to get to my files. But with the streaming add-on you can watch nearly anything you want and not be limited to your local media collection.

To install the youtube add-on just click on add-on under video and choose get more, scroll download until you find youtube and install it. For the other addons I've mention google how to install unofficial xbmc repositories and add-ons

@dknlght, check the youtube pluging is specifying 'auto select' for the video play and not dvdplayer.

sorry but where is that located? I viewed the youtube plugin configuration and there's no option for video play only video quality. I also open the video settings while the video is playing and I don't see it. I see video rendering under the system ->video->playback menu but all I can select is autodetect. Sorry I still don't know where all the xbmc options are.

" I viewed the youtube plugin configuration and there's no option for video play only video quality." that's your answer, you need to check the python source code. Again, as I've mentioned before regarding Nav-x, if the python code is specifically requesting dvdplayer, then the plugin author needs to fix it. We will not be adding hack fixes into the code to override these settings, such changes will never be accepted in xbmc mainline code.
