Airplay type functionality

Postby demost » July 22nd, 2012, 12:12 pm

Is there any way (outside of XBMC) to mirror your tablet or phone with the XIOS? If there was a way to get the functionality going then android units would blow Apple TV out of the water.

Side note, I've been playing around with the XBMC apk and it is fantastic. Running videos off my network drive with full meta data.

Well Airplay mirroring with the open source version of Airplay is impossible, it's protected by Apples Fairplay DRM system.

Someone is working on the same kind of system both Apple/Intel use, it's called Android Transporter however for it to work the phone/tablet must have a H.264 encoder present in the chipset and be running a custom ROM.

If there's anything needed on the box side the Xios could probably run it, the Android Transporter guys demo it running on a Raspberry Pi so it's just a H.264 video stream.

They say there are going to release the source code so it's up to Google to add support for the feature globally & to make it all seamless.
